Belden® FiberExpress® Ultra Patch Panel System

The amount of fiber in the enterprise has increased significantly in recent years due to decreased equipment costs, new technologies, and the need to support high-speed transmissions in backbone infrastructures and data centers. This rapid growth has IT managers across every market calling for higher density, cost-effective solutions that offer easy deployment and scalability for future fiber needs.

At the same time, fiber is the most critical media because it transmits huge amounts of data to and from many sources within the enterprise and around the world. With fiber links more costly and mission-critical than any other network component, downtime is simply not an option.

That’s why Belden developed the FiberExpress Ultra Patch Panel System – a highly innovative fiber patching solution that ensures the utmost reliability and ease of use during installation, operation and maintenance. The system also provides the highest density fiber patching available today to conserve valuable IT real estate and save on installation and maintenance labor costs.

A New Era of Fiber Patching Solutions

Belden’s FiberExpress Ultra Patch Panel System is ultra-rich in user-friendly features that elevate fiber patching to a whole new level. Designed to meet the needs of IT managers and their technical teams, Belden built the system around three core concepts:

  • Ultra high density
  • Ultra-easy installation and maintenance
  • Ultra flexibility, scalability and manageability

The result is a fiber patching system that is easy to deploy, operate and maintain, while ensuring maximum uptime, uninterrupted availability and superior performance – whether in the data center, LAN backbone or storage area network (SAN). The system’s modular design provides optimal flexibility and scalability to “future proof” your investment and provide a low total cost of ownership when compared with other fiber patching systems.

Multiple Features and Benefits

Ultra High Density
FiberExpress Ultra is Belden’s highest density solution for maximizing floor and rack space and addressing scalability.
  • Provides up to 96 fibers in low-profile 1U space, using LC or other Small Form Factor (SFF) connectors
  • Available in a 4U design for supporting up to 288 fibers
  • Wall-mount rack solutions available for space-saving backbone interconnect installations

Ultra-easy Installation and Maintenance
FiberExpress Ultra offers several innovative features that provide easy access to patch cords and connectors without impacting other links.

  • Dual swing-out frames provide easy front access to connectors
  • One-inch pull-out of individual adapter modules for connector maintenance or replacement; prevents possible disconnect or damage to adjacent connectors
  • Provides full rear access for easy maintenance

Ultra Flexibility and Manageability
FiberExpress Ultra provides the flexibility you need to meet all your fiber patching requirements. And, the system’s built-in manageability features facilitate connector and patch cord identification, protection, routing and cable management.

  • Integrated horizontal and vertical cable management provides proper bend radius and intuitive cable routing
  • Front shelf serves as platform for left/right horizontal cable management
  • Includes space for splice trays and cable management/slack storage accessories
  • Modules and frames are easily installed and removed for faster installation and easy moves, adds and changes (MACs)
  • Panels include locking options
  • Supports LC, LC Secure/Keyed, SC, ST-Compatible and other types of connector adapter modules, which can be mixed and matched within frames for optimal flexibility
  • 4U front cover provides protection and ultimate labeling administration. 4U also features a unique (patent pending) 3-position labeling display. When the front cover is closed, labels can be viewed from the front. When the cover is open, it can be flipped down, allowing the labels to be viewed. And, if desired, the cover can also be stowed away completely by sliding it inside the unit.

FiberExpress Ultra Patch Panel System Components
Belden designed the FiberExpress Ultra Patch Panel System to provide an innovative, reliable high-density fiber patching system tosupport our world-class IBDN FiberExpress Structured Cabling Solution. FiberExpress Ultra System components include:

  • FiberExpress Ultra Patch Panels – provide ultra high density connection while facilitating cable routing and patch cord management. Available in Rack-mounted and Wall-mounted versions, the Patch Panels are totally modular and scalable to accommodate future fiber build-out.

Both Patch Panel versions are designed to integrate seamlessly with all Belden FiberExpress cables, connectors and management components. Both provide integrated cable management to maintain proper bend radius and intuitive cable routing. For termination, users can choose traditional field termination methods, such as field connectors or fusion splice, or use Belden FiberExpress Ultra Pre-terminated Cassettes. Both versions also include space for splice trays and cable management accessories.

FiberExpress Ultra Rack-mount Patch Panels – The low-profile 1U design accommodates four (4) Frames or Cassettes for a maximum capacity of 96 fibers using LC or other Small Form Factor (SFF) connectors. The 4U design accommodates twelve (12) Frames or Cassettes for a maximum of 288 fibers. Comes complete with Hardware Kit that includes identification labels, cable ties, Velcro straps, mounting screws and Kurly Locks.

FiberExpress Ultra Wall-mount Patch Panels – Accommodates two (2) Frames or Cassettes for a maximum capacity of 48 fibers. Units are stackable for additional capacity, using 2-inch spacers for a neat finished look. Each comes complete with printable or hand-written blank labels, administration and caution labels, cable ties, Velcro straps, and mounting screws.

  • FiberExpress Ultra Bezels and Frames – Belden Frames – preloaded with Bezels – provide streamlined patch cord management and optimal design flexibility with single- or dual-connector options. A unique (patent pending) mechanism allows the Bezel to slide out 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the frame, providing easy connector access and patch cord management. FiberExpress Ultra Bezels are available in a wide variety of connector types, in both multimode and singlemode versions, including: ST-type, SC Simplex, SC Duplex, SC APC, LC Duplex, LC Duplex APC, MT-RJ and FC. Bezels are also available in newly recognized multimode colors. The Bezels and Frames can be easily inserted or removed from the panel for enhanced maintenance capabilities.
  • FiberExpress Ultra Pre-terminated Cassettes – come fully loaded with connector Bezels and pre-terminated with MPO connection(s) at the rear of the Cassette. In combination with the Bezels and the 1-inch pull-out feature, the Cassette provides easy connection access. Cassettes can also be easily inserted or removed from the Patch Panels for enhanced maintenance capabilities. The Cassette’s rear assembly and cover is available separately to provide additional installation capability.
  • FiberExpress Ultra Splice Tray Kits – offer splicing solutions that support, protect and organize optical fibers to make splicing faster, easier to perform, more secure and error-free. Available in three sizes, each Splice Tray Kit contains one (1) organizer tray, fiber support and connection tubes, cable ties and identification markers. The Kits feature rugged 20 gauge steel construction and a Lexan cover.
  • FiberExpress Splice Enclosures – provide a convenient area for bonding, grounding and terminating the cables, while maintaining the proper bend radius and intuitive cable routing. Available in Rack-mount and Wall-mount versions, the Enclosures come equipped with all the hardware necessary to organize and protect cables and splices.
